a must read, as in multiple reads

Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire is one of the classical works when it comes to revolutionary, decolonial thinking. Freire writes academically, philosophical and – mainly towards the end – heavy. I connect this necessary writing style (based on the English translation) to the heaviness of the topics, among others.

While some parts are philosophical heavy, others are very clear, like the one about the ‘banking’ system where Freire criticizes knowledge transmission: knowledge is being dropped on/in students like money on the bank.

Freire doesn’t only describe the “current” situation but gives frameworks for a new thinking and warns revolutionary leaders who can easily change in precisely those oppressors they fight against if they don’t involve the people.

A must read. As in multiple reads. I'll read the book a second time in Dutch to hopefully understand more of Freire, but was able to gain a ridiculous amount of new insights already.

One of the more in-depth analysis about oppression I have read so far.
